Our Home Addition Process

Plan the connection before the addition takes shape.

01

Goals And Site Feasibility

We discuss the space you need and assess the home, lot, access, utilities, setbacks, easements, grading, drainage, and likely zoning or HOA considerations.

02

Concept And Budget Alignment

The approximate size, location, connection to the existing home, desired features, and finish level are established. Early feasibility and investment expectations are aligned before detailed design.

03

Architectural And Engineering Design

Plans are developed with the appropriate design professionals. Structural, foundation, roof, energy, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and exterior details are coordinated.

04

Proposal, Approvals, And Preconstruction

The construction scope is finalized. Required permits, HOA submissions, selections, long-lead materials, site logistics, and schedule are coordinated.

05

Sitework, Foundation, And Structure

Construction proceeds through site preparation, excavation where applicable, foundation, framing, roofing, windows, doors, and weather protection.

06

Systems And Interior Buildout

Electrical, plumbing, HVAC, insulation, drywall, flooring, cabinetry, tile, painting, trim, fixtures, and other finishes are completed with required inspections along the way.

07

Exterior Integration And Completion

Siding, trim, roofing transitions, drainage, grading, and other exterior connections are completed. We then conduct quality reviews, final inspections, and the homeowner walkthrough.

Investment Planning

What does a home addition cost?

High-quality additions in the Triangle commonly start around $100,000, with many projects falling between $175 to $400+ per square foot. Primary suites, second-story additions, kitchens, complex roof connections, extensive sitework, and premium finishes can place the total between $175,000 and $400,000+.

The cost per square foot is often higher for small additions because foundations, design, permits, mobilization, utilities, and structural connections are spread across fewer square feet.

Feasibility and concept planning should come before a firm construction budget.

Home Addition FAQs

Frequently asked questions.

How do I know whether an addition is allowed?+

Zoning, setbacks, lot coverage, easements, septic or utility conditions, HOA rules, and building-code requirements must be reviewed.

Will the addition match the existing home?+

That is the goal. Rooflines, windows, siding, trim, floor elevations, and interior transitions are planned for a cohesive appearance, although exact matches to aged materials are not always available.

Do additions require architectural plans?+

Most substantial additions require detailed plans, and structural engineering may also be necessary.
