Our Basement Remodeling Process

A clear path from the first walk-through to the final review.

01

Consultation And Site Evaluation

We discuss your goals, preferred features, investment range, and intended use of the basement. We then inspect ceiling height, foundation conditions, moisture concerns, utilities, mechanical equipment, plumbing access, electrical capacity, stairs, and exterior access.

02

Layout And Feasibility Planning

We develop the proposed room arrangement and evaluate egress, bathroom placement, HVAC needs, structural conditions, fire separation, and code requirements. Architects or engineers may be brought in when the project requires professional plans or structural design.

03

Scope, Selections, And Proposal

We define the work, finish level, allowances, exclusions, and responsibilities. Major selections, such as flooring, cabinets, countertops, tile, plumbing fixtures, lighting, and doors, are identified before construction.

04

Plans, Permits, And Preconstruction

Required plans and permit applications are prepared. Long-lead materials are ordered, trade schedules are coordinated, and the construction sequence is confirmed.

05

Rough Construction

The basement moves through framing and structural work, followed by plumbing, electrical, HVAC, and other rough-ins. Required inspections are completed at the appropriate stages.

06

Insulation And Interior Finishes

After rough approvals, we proceed with insulation, drywall, flooring, cabinetry, tile, painting, trim, fixtures, and specialty features.

07

Final Review

We complete a quality review, address the final completion list, coordinate applicable final inspections, and walk through the finished basement with you.

Investment Planning

What does a basement remodel cost?

For early planning, professionally finished basements in the Triangle commonly fall around $65 to $125+ per finished square foot. Many complete Urban Construction-style basement projects will therefore require an investment of approximately $80,000 to $250,000+.

A straightforward open layout without plumbing may fall toward the lower end. Bathrooms, kitchens or wet bars, dedicated HVAC, egress work, theaters, saunas, premium soundproofing, structural changes, and luxury finishes move the project higher.

After evaluating the basement and proposed features, Urban Construction provides a project-specific proposal.

Basement Remodeling FAQs

Frequently asked questions.

How long does a basement remodel take?+

The schedule depends on size, design complexity, permitting, material availability, and specialty features. A detailed schedule is established after the scope and selections are confirmed.

Can you add a bedroom or bathroom?+

Often, yes. Bedroom egress, plumbing, ventilation, ceiling height, and other code requirements must be evaluated first.

Can you build an apartment or in-law suite?+

Potentially. The property, zoning, entrance, parking, utilities, life-safety requirements, and local regulations determine what is permitted.
